Abstract

ABSTRACT
In Colombia, environmental education has regulations and guidelines for its
implementation in basic, secondary and higher education. However, school curricula in
institutions are still far from consolidating these regulations and guidelines. The teaching
experience shows a significant gap between school contents and environmental education
contents, and if we focus on specific topics such as Renewable Energies (RE), this gap grows
even more, since, being a relatively new field, there are some limitations in educational
institutions in terms of infrastructure, technological resources and teacher training for its
teaching.
This paper aims to review the teaching of Renewable Energies in Colombia and its
main theoretical and methodological challenges. For this purpose and as part of an ongoing
research, the experience of a public educational institution in Villagarzón, Putumayo, which
since 2015 has been implementing an interdisciplinary educational proposal that from the
methodology of Problem Based Learning (PBL) works the field of Sustainable Development
where the topic of Renewable Energies is included, will be presented. Through a qualitative
methodology, which integrates documentary review, interviews and focus groups, we seek
to analyze this teaching model, identifying the curricular and pedagogical foundations of the
field of Sustainable Development, and the forms of appropriation of PBL by teachers in the
teaching of Renewable Energies.
